Okay so it's not exactly a reference, but that's what I've been calling it since the forever and a day I started working on it and it's stuck so far.
I tried to get a background on this one but as you can see I'm not exactly the best at architecture. I probably should have drawn the cathedral on paper first because I'm dreadful with a mouse.
I probably drew this same picture twice but ended up going with the first one anyway. This is another "screw you physics I'll do what I want" drawing. And I finished it at college. I've been working on it on and off for a really long time. I have others I've been doing like that longer.
I've been staring at it long enough to not like it all that much anymore but I did always like how regal his (sober) face turned out. He is still, unfortunately or not, the best character I've got and I figured I'd do a newer picture of him since the others are kind of old.
One of these days, I'm going to have a picture of him in his not-wolf form.
The perspective seems kinda wonky, like the cathedral is right behind him and it's a miniature or something, but I know just how big a bitch perspective can be, so I'll ignore that. Other than that, the architecture on it looks pretty good.
Ohgod why did you catch that I was hoping nobody would notice. >: No seriously though, I know exactly what you're talking about. I remember looking at it and thinking something like that, but I had done about eight layers of color already, and there was no way anything could have been moved even if I wanted to. Like I said, I should have drawn that out on paper first.
Very nice. I love the stained glass windows. And I know how hard drawing something with a mouse can be, I hate doing so myself.
The character looks good, I like his pose. The atmosphere is dark, and that's pretty good. You've paid good detail into the light sourcing, and that's pretty hard.
The cathedral, looks like it good be one of two things, at least to me. It could be really far away and casting a long shadow because of the moon. But because of that, his body should be in shadow more, like you can see a line of shadow to not in the shading, because he's still hit by the shadow of the lower and wider part of the building. Or the cathedral is really far away, and he's standing in front of the part of the shadow where the lower level ends and off to his right is the shadow of the second level. But because of that, it should be closer to the horizon line, like it should be moved up, and shrunk a little.
The star field is pretty nice, it looks like there's a blanket of glitter in the sky. ^_~ and that's enough for some who appreciates shiny.
I love the detailing you put in though. The bricks are a wonderful touch and show a lot of thought. And I love the stained glass windows. Oh and the shine on the bell
Really, when you have a light source as prominently obvious as a disproportionately huge full moon, it's hard not to pay attention to it.
Really the background itself was a conglomeration of various Photoshop filters but I did spend a really long time on it. Too bad it, you know, doesn't entirely fit as well as it could. Thanks for the advice though, even if it's all one layer now so I can't fix it.
No, I kept the PSD, I just merged all the background into one layer because having a whole hell of a lot of them sometimes causes Photoshop to freeze up and I'd lose my work unexpectedly.
Wow, this looks really cool. I like the lighting in this picture.

The character himself looks pretty good.
Thanks, though. I really appreciate it.

oh, you don't keep the .PSD file? That's a shame. But it saves space, so I can see why. You're welcome, though.
